SCHOOL BUS CONDUCT
Students must be on time at designated stop and must stay off the roadway at all times while waiting for the bus. Bus operators will not wait for late students. Exceptions will be made for inclement weather. Students must obey the bus operator. Students must cross the road in front of the bus, never in the rear. Students must sit upright in seat and face the front.
Be courteous to one another. Help to keep the bus clean and sanitary. Anyone purposely damaging, cutting or breaking school property will be disciplined and be required to pay damages (vandalism). Avoid causing trouble by teasing, bullying*, fighting. Avoid using profane, obscene or abusive language. Arms and head must be kept inside the bus windows at all times. Nothing is to be thrown out of windows. There should be no moving around while the bus is in motion. If assigned to a seat by the bus operator, stay in that seat. Loud talking will not be tolerated. Conversation in normal tones is permissible. Obtain permission from the operator before opening windows when it is cold or raining. The emergency door is to be used only in cases of an accident or emergency. The middle aisle should not be blocked by students. No student will be allowed to ride another bus other than the one to which they are normally assigned. Exceptions are as follows:
SHORT TERM REQUESTS: A written request must be presented to the operator before the child boards for an afternoon or overnight privilege. Bus operators will have a copy of this form to file in their personal folder.
LONG TERM REQUESTS: Parental requests for a child to be picked up, dropped off or both on a long term basis to a day care center, baby sitter or relative may be approved. The bus operator must be contacted first and a signed statement from parents must be obtained. If the bus operator’s route is overcrowded, these special privileges will not be approved. Parents are to understand that if a new student(s) moves to the operator’s regular route; this special privilege may be revoked. Parents will have to find other means to meet these needs. Bus operators are not to change their routes for either of these special privileges.

The following items are not allowed on the bus: glass objects (except eye glasses), pets, radio, weapons, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, matches, cigarette lighter, or obscene materials. Objects too large to be held in the student’s lap or placed under the bus seat will not be allowed on the bus. Students will obey all school rules while on field trips or school-related activities. Students do not have permission to wander on or off the campus upon arrival in the morning or upon dismissal in the afternoon without permission from the principal. No cell phone use on the bus except in special situations under the authority given by principal or staff member or in case of an emergency.
Bus operators are permitted to make reasonable rules for the safe and proper operation of buses. Major Offenses (see DISCIPLINE); Category I, II, & III). The Principal shall report this offense to the appropriate law enforcement agency. ANY VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE RULES AND REGULATIONS MAY BE REASON FOR DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
