STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
The Jefferson Davis Parish School Board expects all student behavior shall be based on respect and consideration for the rights of others. Students shall be expected to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will enable him or her to be a responsible, contributing member of society. Students have the responsibility to know and respect the rules and regulations of the school system.
Each school principal shall annually prepare a reasonable code of student behavior. The code of student behavior shall require students to maintain order and control and alleviate interference with the students' learning experiences.
As a part of each school's code of student behavior, the School Board expects each student to:
Comply with all regulations of the Jefferson Davis Parish School Board.
Recognize the authority of all teachers and other school personnel.
Abstain from gambling, immorality, inappropriate sexual behavior, profanity, bullying, intimidating, harassing, hazing, fighting, extortion, use of or possession of tobacco, narcotics, or intoxicating liquors, or the possession of any instrument capable of inflicting bodily harm.
Refrain from willfully damaging, defacing, or destroying school property or illegally entering school buildings.
Be regular in school attendance and on time; strive to do his/her best in all areas of school life.
Wear appropriate dress and conform to acceptable standards of appearance as established by each local school.
Abide by regulations set by the School Board concerning travel to and from school on school buses and use and operation of private vehicles on the school grounds.
Such private vehicles must be registered with the school and parked in the student lot, if required by the local school.
Automobiles are to be vacated immediately on arrival and should be re-entered only at the time of authorized departure.
Comply with regular rules and regulations of the School Board while attending any activities sponsored by the school or School Board.
Students are not allowed to leave the campus during school hours unless authorized by the principal.
Student behavior is affected by the presence of unauthorized individuals. Only those persons who have presented themselves to the school office and who have received approval to visit may do so. It shall be the students' responsibility to discourage visitors during school hours and to immediately inform any visitor of rules concerning visitors. Failure to do so shall be considered in violation of School Board policy and subject violators to disciplinary action.
Beginning in 1999-2000, students in grades K-5 are expected to use the language "yes Sir/Ma'am" and "no Sir/Ma'am" when addressing school employees. Subsequent years will add one grade level each year until all students in grades K-12 will be addressing school employees in this manner.
Students shall comply with all School Board policies and regulations, each school's code of student behavior, and directions of principals, teachers, or other authorized school personnel during any period of time when the student is properly under the authority of school personnel. Alleged misconduct shall be dealt with by the principal:
Whenever a teacher considers a problem of classroom discipline to be so serious as to warrant the principal's attention; or
Whenever the alleged misconduct constitutes a violation of the rules that govern serious misconduct; or
Whenever the principal deems it advisable that he/she deal personally with the misconduct.
