BOARD MEMBER COMPENSATION AND EXPENSES

 

 

The Iberia Parish School Board shall provide an expense allowance to and provide expense reimbursement for its members in accordance with state law.  Each member of the School Board shall be paid an allowance of $800.00 per month and the President shall receive $900.00 per month.  School Board members shall also be authorized to receive reimbursement for mileage going to and from meetings as well as reimbursement for actual travel and related expenses outside the jurisdictional boundaries of the School Board while on official School Board business, all in accordance with School Board policy.

 

A member who does not attend regular or special meetings of the School Board, including committee meetings, may be required to forfeit up to one-third of their expense allowance for each nonattendance without reasonable excuse, the amount of said forfeiture to be determined by the School Board.

 

Any action increasing the expense allowance of School Board members shall require a two-thirds (⅔) vote of the total membership.  Before any action is taken, however, the School Board shall advertise in the official journal of the School Board the time and place of a meeting to consider the increase in expense allowance.  The advertisement shall appear on at least two (2) separate days during the fifteen (15) days immediately preceding such meeting.

 

ATTENDANCE AT ANNUAL SCHOOL BOARD CONVENTIONS

 

The School Board encourages its members to attend annual School Board conventions in order to be more properly informed of developments in education on a statewide and national basis.  The Executive Officers of the School Board must set attendance restrictions when required.

 

If, at the time of any travel request for any one or more board members, there are insufficient funds within the School Board travel budget to satisfy the anticipated expenditure, no expenditure shall be made without a School Board approved resolution making the necessary budget adjustment prior to said expenditure.

 

All School Board members are eligible for the state convention and any other in-state conferences (Trail Blazers).

 

Travel Expense Guidelines

 

School Board member expenses for attending the LSBA Convention, the NSBA Convention, etc., shall be reimbursed as follows:

 

  1. Expenses for actual travel (car, airplane, etc.) shall be reimbursed only up to the cost of the least expensive mode of transportation.

  2. Expenses for hotel/motel accommodations shall be reimbursed only up to the amount paid for the School Board members whose arrangements were made by the Superintendent’s office.

  3. Meals, mileage, etc., shall be paid in accordance with policy DJD, Expense Reimbursement.

  4. Transportation between hotel and airport (shuttle bus, etc.) and parking fees shall be paid only in the amount indicated on receipt.

  5. Tips shall be reimbursed (reasonable amounts).

  6. One rental vehicle when that vehicle is to be used by the group (van, etc.) shall be reimbursed.

 

Travel Reports

 

Expenses shall be paid to School Board members for attendance at both state and national conventions only if the School Board member attends at least one-half of the clinics available for him/her to attend.  In addition, prior to receiving full reimbursement, School Board members shall turn in a report on the clinics attended on or before a date set by the President.  Such members who do not fulfill both requirements, i.e., clinic attendance and report, shall be notified by the President that they will be required to refund to the School Board any monies paid out on their behalf, except when the School Board takes specific action to waive these requirements.

 

The Superintendent is hereby authorized to deduct, through payroll deductions from the salary of any School Board member, any monies owed the Iberia Parish School Board, only after a ninety (90) day written notice.
