The Iberia Parish School Board met in Regular Session at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the Board Room at the Administrative Office, 1500 Jane Street, New Iberia, Louisiana.

 

The President called the meeting to order and asked for a Moment of Silence for Mr. Merlin “Butsy” Walet, Jr., Retired Coach and husband of Marla Walet, Special Education Department.

 

The Opening Prayer was given by Mr. Henderson and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. McDonald.

 

CONSENT AGENDA -

Agenda Item F of the agenda is the Consent Agenda.  Board members may remove any items for individual consideration.

There were no requests. The Consent Agenda remained as published.

 

CHANGES/CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA –

Move Agenda Item D1 up on the agenda and take it right after Roll Call.

Agenda Item G4 should read “approval to award” not “to advertise for”     

The electronic Agenda has been corrected.

 

The Board agreed to the changes/corrections to the agenda by general consensus.

1.                Mr. Rickey Huval, Parish Assessor reported to the Board that after nine years of various count hearings regarding the Jefferson Island Cavern lawsuit, it has been settled in the Parish’s favor.   The Board’s share of the settlement will be approximately $633,000.00 and the Assessor’s Office will be absorbing the Board’s share of the legal fees so that it can be used toward the Board’s work of improving education in our parish. The Board thanked Mr. Huval for his hard work and generosity to the school system.

1.           RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADVERTISING FOR SEALED BIDS

 

The following resolution was offered by Mr. Buford and seconded by Mr. Lockett:

 

RESOLUTION

A resolution authorizing the advertising for sealed bids for the purchase of Nine Million Eight Hundred Thousand Dollars ($9,800,000) of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2015, of Parishwide School District of the Parish of Iberia, State of Louisiana, and providing for other matters in connection therewith.

The motion was unanimously adopted.

Mr. McDonald moved, Mr. Pradia seconded, that millage rates for the 2015 calendar year be set as follows:
